Australian Troy Bayliss has won the Valencia MotoGP, yet his victory was overshadowed by Nicky Hayden(69), who finished third to claim the 2006 World Championship.
500cc World Championships were instituted by the World Federation Internationale Motorcycliste (FIM) in 1949. There were 580 GPs raced between 1949 until 2001.
